Stairs are an important example of a place you want indoor gates. It's easy for a child OR a puppy to get hurt on a staircase, so baby stair gates are the easy answer, right? But it's important to know what kind of safety gate to put at the bottom of a staircase, and what kind to put at the top.
You can get away with a pressure gate or freestanding gate at the bottom, because if a safety gate at the bottom of the stairs falls over, then the child or puppy likely won't have far to fall (assuming you get him before he's made his way up the stairs). But the TOP of the stairs is obviously a whole different matter. The only stair safety gates / dog gates that can truly be called a stair gate is the kind that you mount with brackets. It's not a Top of Stairway Gate if it is only mounted with pressure. A pressure mounted gate is NOT secure enough to trust at the top of a staircase!
